Internships External Programme Overview

Mafube Coal Opencast Mine is a Joint Venture 50 50 between Thungela and Exxaro Resources. The mine is situated 37km east of Middelburg in the Mpumalanga province. We mine coal, primarily for supply, to the export market.

The Role

The role is offering graduates on the job experience. Successful candidates will go through a two 2 year training programme and receive mentorship and coaching from qualified experts.

This programme focuses on building technical competence, workplace readiness, and professional discipline within the mining sector.

Internship Requirements

Minimum Grade 12 and relevant qualification for the internship applying for:

  • Human Resource Management, National Diploma, Advanced Diploma, BTech, BCom HRM HRM2026
  • Environmental, Diploma, BTech, BSc Environmental Management or Sciences ENV2026
    Safety, National Diploma, BTech, Advance Diploma SAF2026
    Communications, National Diploma or BA in Communications or BA in Journalism or Media studies COM2026
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Sound knowledge of Safety Systems, Regulations, and standards with a high regard to safety.
  • Must be able and willing to work shifts, standbys and call outs when required.
  • Must be in possession of or able to obtain a certificate of fitness.

These requirements ensure readiness for a demanding operational environment within an open cast mining operation.
