BEC Announces 2025 PSLE Outcomes: Nearly All Candidates Achieve Pass Grades

The Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) has released the 2025 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) results.

A total of 52,766 (Fifty Two Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Six) candidates wrote the 2025 examination, showing a decrease in candidature of 0.51% from the 2024 candidature of 53,039 (Fifty Three Thousand and Thirty Nine). The 2025 cohort had 26,233 (49.72%) females and 26,533 (50.28%) males. The female candidates outperformed their male counterparts in all subjects.

The 2025 PSLE overall performance indicates that the proportion of candidates obtaining pass grades (Grade E or better) at 99.91% compared to that of the previous year at 99.80%. This implies that almost all candidates who sat the 2025 PSLE qualified for the award of the minimum grade. There were only 13 candidates declared unclassified - denoted by letter U, while 34 candidates could not reach requirements for the award of a grade, denoted by letter X, which was mostly caused by absenteeism of candidates from the examination.

The proportion of candidates obtaining credit grades (Grade C or better) improved by 0.80%, from 73.30% in 2024 to 74.10% this year.

The percentage of candidates obtaining Grade A in this examination has increased by 0.30%, from 21.10% in 2024 to 21.40% in 2025.

The proportion of candidates obtaining Grade B or better has also improved, with an increase of 0.90% from 40.30% in 2024 to 41.20% this year.

In summary, the 2025 PSLE results indicate an improvement in performance at the qualification level compared to the previous year. Symbols used in the Results:

U denotes that a candidate did not meet the minimum requirements for Grade E.

X denotes that a candidate did not meet the minimum requirements for grading due to various reasons, and some of the cases will be resolved in due course
