About Nursery School Registration

The Ministry of Education, Guyana, invites parents and guardians to register their children for admission into nursery schools for the 2026 academic year. Timely registration ensures access to early childhood education and eligibility for the Because We Care Cash Grant.

Registration Period: 12 January – 31 March 2026
Eligibility: Children born on or before 30 June 2023
Starting School: September 2026
Location: Nursery schools across Guyana

Eligibility Criteria

  • Children must have their third birthday on or before 30 June 2026

  • Only children born on or before 30 June 2023 are eligible for enrollment in September 2026

  • Placement will consider proximity to the child’s home or parents’ place of work, depending on space availability

Required Documents for Registration

Parents or guardians must present the following documents to the head teacher of the nursery school for verification:

  1. Birth Certificate – Proof of the child’s date of birth

  2. Immunization Card – Up-to-date vaccinations as per Ministry of Health requirements

  3. Proof of Address – Utility bill, bank statement, or TIN certificate

Note: Children will not be denied entry if the relevant documents are unavailable. Parents can visit the Department of Education in their region for assistance in obtaining documents.

Registration Guidelines

  • Registration opens on 12 January 2026 and closes on 31 March 2026

  • Late registration may affect eligibility for the Because We Care Cash Grant

  • Placement decisions are based on the Ministry of Education’s policy

  • The Department of Education reserves the right to refuse placement if information is inaccurate

  • Schools prioritize children living closest to the school or their parents’ workplace

  • Parents who lack the required documents are encouraged to visit their regional Department of Education office for guidance

Important Notes

  • Registration is mandatory for all new nursery admissions

  • Children without documents will still be accommodated, ensuring no child is excluded from early education
