Mauritius Africa Scholarship Scheme 2026: Apply Now (Fully funded)


The Government of the Republic of Mauritius is pleased to announce the Mauritius Africa Scholarship Scheme 2026, inviting applications from deserving and motivated students who are resident citizens of African Union or African Commonwealth countries. This prestigious scholarship programme aims to promote capacity-building across Africa by offering fully funded opportunities to pursue undergraduate, MPhil, MPhil/PhD, and PhD programmes at accredited public higher education institutions in Mauritius.

The scholarship covers tuition fees, living expenses, and return airfare from the candidate’s home country, ensuring recipients can focus fully on their studies. Applications must be submitted through the nominating agency in the applicant’s home country—usually within the Ministry of Education—and must reach the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology of Mauritius by 27 March 2026.

This initiative reflects Mauritius’ commitment to fostering educational cooperation, regional integration, and sustainable development across Africa, empowering the next generation of leaders and professionals.

Criteria

1. For undergraduate programmes, applicants should be above 18 years of age and should not have reached their 26th birthday by 01 January 2027.

2. For MPhil, MPhil/PhD and PhD programmes, applicants should not have reached their 40th birthday by 01 January 2027.

3. Applicants must have already applied for a full-time on-campus programme (Diploma, Degree, MPhil or PhD) at a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius (listed in Section 8 in the relevant Guidelines for Applicants) for the academic year starting in 2026.

4. The scholarship will be for a maximum duration as indicated in the table below or the minimum course duration whichever is lesser.

Programme of Studies And Duration

  1. Undergraduate Diploma Three (3) years
  2. Undergraduate Degree Four (4) years
  3. MPhil Two (2) years + 6 months for thesis defence
  4. MPhil / PhD Three (3) years + 6 months for approval of transfer report and One
  5. PhD Three (3) years + 6 months for thesis defence

The Scholarship will support successful candidates in meeting their tuition fees and contributing to their living expenses during their studies in Mauritius. Furthermore, the scholarship covers return airfare by the most economical route. This will be valid for travel from the country of origin at the beginning of the studies and back to the country of origin upon successful completion of studies.

Application Form

(Applicants are invited to fill in the form electronically before printing)

  • Scholarship applications can only be made on the application form.
  • An application under this scheme is to be made solely through the nominating agency responsible for processing scholarships in the applicant's country of citizenship.
  • Section 5 of the application form should be endorsed and completed by the Nominating Agency in the applicant's country of citizenship.
  • Such Nominating Agency, which may typically be part of the Ministry of Education in the country of the applicant, will then shortlist and endorse the applications of a maximum of FIFTEEN (15) eligible candidates (the decision on the distribution of nominees from the undergraduate and/or postgraduate programmes rest on the nominating agencies) and submit the duly completed application forms by 27 March 2026.

Applications and all supporting documents must be forwarded to the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research of the Republic of Mauritius at the address mentioned below for the final selection.
