Background of Uganda Wildlife Authority

Main Purpose of the Ranger Role
The main purpose of the ranger position is to protect wildlife resources, property, and human life within assigned protected areas. Rangers serve on the frontline of conservation. Daily work blends law enforcement, environmental monitoring, and community protection.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
As a UWA ranger, your responsibilities include the following core tasks.
Operational and Security Duties
- Conduct patrols and field operations within and around protected areas.
- Detect and prevent wildlife crime through proactive measures.
- Arrest suspects involved in illegal wildlife activities and support prosecution.
- Provide security for wildlife, staff, visitors, and UWA property.
Conservation and Data Collection
- Collect and record field data to support management decisions.
- Monitor protected area boundaries to deter encroachment.
- Participate in wildlife inventories and surveys.
Wildlife Management Support
- Support problem animal control activities.
- Assist in wildlife rescue, capture, and translocation operations.
Communication and Reporting
- Operate radios and share information with relevant personnel.
- Gather and relay intelligence to supervisors.
- Prepare and submit operational reports as required.

Academic Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Uganda Certificate of Education with at least a pass in English Language.
Experience
