The Minister for Education and Training Owen Nxumalo has presented the 2025 Grade 7 results. He mentioned that this cohort of pupils is the first to sit the assessment under the Competency Based Education (CBE) curriculum. 32452 pupils registered for the 2025 examinations and 32300 were assessed.
The Minister said "the Grade 7 assessment will no longer be referred to as the Eswatini Primary Certificate (EPC) but as the Eswatini Primary School Assessment (EPSA), ... [in line] with the principles of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum, which positions the Grade 7 assessment as a diagnostic tool rather than a pass-or-fail examination."
The CBE curriculum also came with three additional subjects: Health and Physical Education (HPE), Expressive Arts and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), which were examined for the first time in the 2025 EPSA examination. Nxumalo congratulated all stakeholders for their joint effort in preparing learners for the 2025 external assessment.
On another note, he explained that there were 18 cases of malpractice which were investigated and concluded. As a result all schools will receive their results. He warned teachers and invigilators who continue to be involved in malpractice, saying they will suffer a heavy fine of up to E50000.
