DTEF 2026/27 Mauritius-Africa Scholarship for Botswana Students


The Department of Tertiary Education Financing (DTEF) invites eligible Botswana citizens to apply for the Mauritius-Africa Scholarship Scheme 2026/27. This fully funded programme supports Undergraduate, Masters/MPhil, and PhD studies in Mauritius, covering tuition, return airfare, campus accommodation, monthly stipend, and medical insurance. Applicants must meet academic and age requirements and submit all documents before 5 March 2026.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Applicants should:

i. Be citizens of Botswana in good health.
ii. Have completed BGCSE/IGCSE or equivalent in less than two (2) years from the date of this application for Undergraduate Degree applicants
iii. Applicants applying for Undergraduate Degree must not be on Government sponsorship or have benefitted before.

OTHER ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Applicants should meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Age limit

    • For Undergraduate Diploma: Applicants should be above eighteen (18) years and not reached twenty six (26) years by 1st Jan 2027

    • For Undergraduate Degree: Applicants should be above eighteen (18) years and not reached twenty-six (26) years by 1st Jan 2027

    • For MPhil: Applicant should be thirty-five (35) years or below and should have not reached their 40th birthday by 1st January 2027

    • For Doctoral Degree/PhD: Applicant should have not reached forty (40) years by 1st Jan 2027

  2. Minimum Required Academic Qualification (Points/Grades)

    • For Undergraduate Diploma: 40 points from BGCSE/IGCSE or equivalent (with credit in English)

    • For Undergraduate Degree: A LEVEL (with credit in English)

    • For MPhil: First Class from First Degree

    • For Doctoral Degree/PhD: First Class from MPhil/Masters

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

i. The Application form

All candidates must, along with their application for Scholarships, also have applied for a fulltime on-campus Undergraduate/MPHIL/PhD programme at a public TEI of their choice. This application must be made as early as possible once the TEI has opened its respective application windows on their websites. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED:

i. An application letter stating one (1) preferred programme of study also include contact details e.g. cell phone, telephone numbers & email address.

ii. A Completed Mauritius - Africa Scholarship Application Form

iii. Copy of Conditional Admission Offer by a public tertiary education institution in Mauritius (if available at time of application) OR copy of acknowledgement notice that an application has been made and is being processing.

iv. Certified copy of Omang (National Identity Card).

v. Certified copy of Birth Certificate.

vi. Certified copy of first two (2) pages of valid Passport (biodata page).

vii. Certified copy of Degree/Masters’ Degree/MPhil certificates for Post Graduate Applicants.

viii. Certified copy of Statement of A Level for Undergraduate Applicants.

ix. Certified copy of Academic transcript for Mphil/PhD applicants only.

x. An updated Resume for MPhil/PhD applicants only.

xi. Detailed Abridged Research Proposal of more than 700 words for PhD applicants only, please refer to the Guidelines for Applicants for Format of Abridged Research Proposal for MPhil/PhD as required by Mauritius Government

xii. Supporting Statement from a named Supervisor from a University on Mauritius.

xiii. Medical certificate to be duly filled and signed by a registered medical Practitioner in Section 6 of the Application Form and this should be appropriately stamped.

xiv. Affidavit of names in case where names are different between the certificate and omang.

xv. An official confirmation of change of surnames if surnames between the certificate and omang are different.

PLEASE FURTHER NOTE THAT:

i. Post Graduates applicants should strictly apply for MPhil not MA/MSc

ii. Ungraded or unclassified Degree will NOT be considered.

iii. All documents in any other languages must be translated into English.

iv. Be able to take up their awards in July to September 2026.

v. Aspirants who are already on government sponsorship will not be considered.

vi. Aspirants who are already holding MPhil/MA/MSc/PHD will not be considered.

vii. Aspirants are advised that meeting the minimum requirements does not in any way guarantee for Scholarship.

viii. Only successful applicants will be contacted.

DEADLINE/CLOSING DATES:

  1. Intake: July to September 2026. Submission of Application to DTEF: Thursday 5th March 2026. Submission of Hard Copies of Application documents to Mauritius (by DTEF): Friday 27 March, 2026.
