Western Cape Agriculture Matric Internships 2026 for x30 Rural Youth

The Western Cape Department of Agriculture is opening internship opportunities for rural youth who finished grade 12 in the province. The programme offers 30 placements across key rural districts and gives young applicants a chance to gain practical work experience in government. The recruitment focuses on local residents with an interest in developmental training, with priority given to candidates from the listed districts, females and persons with disabilities. Successful applicants will join a structured 12 month internship starting 1 April 2026 and will receive a monthly stipend.

The Western Cape Department of Agriculture offers opportunities to 30 unemployed rural matriculants

This initiative targets:

Thirty (30) unemployed rural youth with matric, from the following rural areas identified:

• Cape Winelands District Municipality
• Central Karoo District Municipality
• Garden Route District Municipality
• Overberg District Municipality
• West Coast District Municipality

Requirements

• Applicants must be South African citizens residing in the Western Cape.
• Applicants must have completed grade 12 in the Western Cape.
• Learners currently in grade 12 may apply but will only be considered if they pass the final examinations.
• Applicants from the areas mentioned will receive preference.
• Females and persons with a disability are encouraged to apply.
• Youth (18 –24 years) may apply for the Matric Internships.
• Applicants must be entering an internship/developmental programme in government for the first time.

Nature and Period of Appointment

Successful applicants for the matric internships will be appointed on a fixed-term contract for 12 months, in the areas where the positions
are based, effective 1 April 2026.
The appointed interns will receive a monthly stipend of between R5 639.64 - R6 659.36.
