Competition: Make Girls Count campaign for girls’ education 2018


1. Essay Question: What one big idea should African leaders implement that will harness the power of the continent’s girls to transform all our futures?
2. Where to Enter: Entries are made by completing an online form available at https://one.org/girlscountcompetition.
3. Winner Selection:
·         A judging committee will select the winner (the judging committee will be made up of representatives chosen by ONE, such as employees of ONE, partners of ONE, or other, experts and/or community leaders) (the “Judging Committee”).
·         Based on the recommendation of the Judging Committee, ONE will choose the winner or winners of the competition (“Winner(s)”). Winner(s) will be chosen at the sole and absolute discretion of ONE. ONE is not obligated to inform or otherwise update those competition entrants who did not win.
·         At the recommendation of the Judging Committee, ONE may also choose a runner-up or runners-up (“Runner(s)-up”). As with Winner(s), Runner(s)-up will be chosen at the sole and absolute discretion of ONE.
·         The winners will be notified by e-mail. Winner(s) will be required to participate in a prize fulfillment process and sign documentation, such as a release, within the time frame specified by ONE, as will be more fully detailed when Winner(s) is notified.
4. Entry:
1.    Entries will be accepted starting at 12:00 am on 17 October, 2017 and close at 12:00 am on 17 November, 2017.
2.    The winners will be announced on 15 December, 2017.
3.    All decisions made by ONE are final.
4.    Late or incomplete entries will be disqualified at the sole and absolute discretion of ONE.
5. Judging Criteria:
1.    Ability to articulate the challenge; and,
2.    Ability to share possible solutions to the challenges they face.
6. Eligibility to Enter:
1.    Entrant essays may not exceed 500 words. If any essay exceeds the maximum word count described herein, it will be disqualified at the sole and absolute discretion of ONE.
2.    Eligible Entrants: Entrants must:
a.    Be between the ages of 18 and 35 years;
b.    Be currently living in Africa and a citizens or permanent resident of the African country in which they live;
c.    Submit an essay according to these Rules;
d.    Submit an original piece of writing answering the question posed in paragraph 1 above; and,
e.    Have a valid passport or international travel document.
3.    Ineligible Entrants: Entrants may not be ONE employees, judges or direct suppliers of the Awards, or immediate family of ONE employees, competition judges or direct suppliers of the competition.
7. Entry:
1.    There is one (1) method of obtaining an entry. Each entrant is allowed only one entry. By entering, you are agreeing to these rules (competition “Rules”).
2.    Methods of entry: Entrants must fill out and submit the information as required through the competition website. To enter the competition, eligible persons as defined in these Rules must (a) go to the contest website; (b) Complete the required fields on the contest website; and, (c) submit the entry. ONE is not responsible for any interruption in services that prevent you from entering the contest or completing the necessary information on the contest website.
8. Any and all information provided becomes the property of ONE Africa. The information may adopted and used by ONE for blogs, media pieces and digital content
9. Competition Prizes (prizes are non-transferrable):
1.    Winner(s):
a.    Winners may be contacted for editorial coverage by ONE and agree to participate in any media interviews facilitated by ONE.
          i.        Winner(s) will be required to participate in a prize fulfillment process and sign documentation, such as a release, within the time frame specified by ONE, as will be more fully detailed when Winner(s) is notified.
        ii.        Winner(s) agree to make themselves available for publicity purposes relating to the competition, the AU Summit, and may be called upon to become ONE Pan-African Champions during the course of 2018 through supporting ONE’s actions across the African continent.
       iii.        The Winner(s) will join ONE to share their big idea directly with African leaders / decision makers at an event organised with the African Union. Winner(s) eligibility is dependent on her/his adherence to these Rules;
2.    Runner(s) up:
a.    Runner(s) up will receive: a package with ONE merchandise.

10. Miscellaneous:
1.    NO PURCHASE OR SALE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.
2.    Entrants are prohibited from entering by any fraudulent or inappropriate means, including, without limitation, collaborating with any party or person in any way to gain entries. Use of these techniques, or of any script, macro, or other automated or artificial system to obtain entries, or with the intent or effect of impairing the integrity of the contest, is prohibited and all such entries will, upon discovery by ONE, at ONE’s sole discretion, be deemed null and void. Attempts made by an individual to submit entries in excess of one (1) or otherwise in violation of these Official Rules by using multiple or false contact information or otherwise may be disqualified.
3.    LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY: EACH PARTICIPANT AGREES TO RELEASE, HOLD HARMLESS AND INDEMNIFY ONE, ITS AFFILIATES (INCLUDING THE ONE CAMPAIGN AND ONE ACTION) AND ITS RESPECTIVE OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, MEMBERS, MANAGERS, EMPLOYEES, REPRESENTATIVES AND AGENTS OF EACH (COLLECTIVELY “RELEASED PARTIES”) FOR ANY LIABILITY WHATSOEVER FOR INJURIES OR DAMAGES OF ANY KIND SUSTAINED IN CONNECTION WITH THE PARTICIPATING IN AND/OR TRAVELING TO OR FROM ANY PRIZE- OR PROMOTION-RELATED ACTIVITY INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY INJURY, DAMAGE, DEATH, LOSS, OR ACCIDENT TO PERSON OR PROPERTY. EACH WINNER AGREES (AS BETWEEN WINNER AND THE RELEASED PARTIES) THAT THE PRIZE IS PROVIDED AS-IS WITHOUT ANY warranty, representation or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, WHETHER NOW KNOWN OR HEREINAFTER ENACTED, relative to the use or enjoyment of the prize, including, without limitation, ITS quality, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
4.    THIS CONTEST IS IN NO WAY SPONSORED, ENDORSED OR ADMINISTERED BY, OR ASSOCIATED WITH A THIRD PARTY SUCH AS FACEBOOK, INC. (“FACEBOOK”) OR TWITTER, INC. (“TWITTER”).
5.    BY PARTICIPATING IN THE CONTEST YOU AGREE TO THESE OFFICIAL RULES, WHICH ARE A CONTRACT, SO READ THEM CAREFULLY. WITHOUT LIMITATION, THIS CONTRACT INCLUDES INDEMNITIES TO ONE (DEFINED BELOW) AND A LIMITATION OF YOUR RIGHTS AND REMEDIES.
