BEQAEB has issued a detailed clarification to address public concerns around examination dates and registration fees for the 2025/2026 academic cycle. The Benue State Education Quality Assurance and Examinations Board stated that the approved examinations calendar remains valid and should guide all schools, parents, and candidates across the state.
According to the Board, the 2025/2026 examinations calendar was released earlier after structured engagement with education stakeholders. This process involved school administrators, examination officers, and other sector partners. The goal was to ensure adequate preparation time, smooth logistics, and timely printing and distribution of examination materials. The calendar also supports the prompt marking of scripts and early release of results before the next academic session begins.
BEQAEB restated that the official statutory examination fee for the Basic Education Certificate Examination and the Mock Senior School Certificate Examination stands at ₦18,000. In addition to this amount, candidates are required to pay ₦250 as compulsory bank charges, bringing the total approved fee to ₦18,250. The Board emphasized that this remains the standard fee structure approved for these examinations.
The Board further explained that the current ₦10,250 fee being charged during early registration is a temporary relief measure. This reduced amount, which already includes bank charges, was approved as a palliative by the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia. The aim is to reduce financial pressure on parents and guardians during the early registration period. BEQAEB stressed that this concession applies strictly to early registration. Once the early registration window closes, the portal will automatically revert to the full statutory fee of ₦18,250.
BEQAEB also addressed false reports circulating online and within some communities regarding examination dates. The Board described claims that the BECE examination will take place in March 2026 as inaccurate. For clarity, the BECE examination is scheduled to hold from 20 April to 1 May 2026, exactly as outlined in the approved examinations calendar. No changes have been made to these dates.
Schools, parents, and candidates were advised to rely only on official communication issued directly by BEQAEB. The Board encouraged strict adherence to published timelines and urged eligible candidates to take advantage of the early registration period while the reduced fee remains available.
BEQAEB reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, proper standardization, and strong quality assurance practices in all examination processes within Benue State. The Board noted that clear communication and compliance from all stakeholders remain essential for the successful conduct of examinations.
