The DTEF Botswana Undergraduate Cuba Medicine Scholarship 2026/27 offers two study opportunities for eligible citizens who want to pursue medical training in Cuba. You start with a one year Spanish language programme, followed by full time medical studies from August 2026. The scholarship supports learners from low income families and provides accommodation and allowances under the same terms given to Cuban sponsored students. You need strong BGCSE results in science subjects, a recent school certificate, good health records and a clean police clearance to be considered.
ELIGIBILITY:
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
Be citizens of Botswana
Have attained minimum of 43 points (BGCSE or equivalent) with relevant school subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Double Science.
Have completed Secondary General Education (BGCSE or Equivalent) not more than two (2) years prior to this application.
Must be 16 years old and not older than 25 years old.
Should be healthy and have official documents attesting that he/she is free from transmittable disease.
If the candidate is female, should have official documents attesting that she is not pregnant.
Should have Police Clearance that he/she has no criminal record
Applicant must come from a low income family unable to pay for studies abroad
NB: Qualifying applicants registered under Social Services should indicate this in their application letters and attached supporting letter from Social Worker.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES & REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
All aspirants should submit application letter to DTEF with the following documents:
i. Application letter include contact details e.g. cell phone or telephone.
ii. Certified copy of Birth Certificate and a copy translated into Spanish Language.
iii. Ten (10) 1 x 1 cm coloured passport sized photos.
iv. Certified copy passport (validity of passport should be more than 2 years).
v. Copy of school certificate or results slip certified by both Ministry of Higher Education & Skills Development and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
vi. Police Clearance certificate
vii. Original Medical Certificate and Medical Tests where the following aspects must be certified:
HIV/AIDS negative
Hepatitis B negative
Pregnancy – negative.
PLEASE NOTE THAT:
Only nominated applicants will be requested to translate their documents to Spanish.
Documents for nominated applicants must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
No changes of career or specialty are allowed after awarding of scholarship.
All aspirants who are already on Government sponsorship either doing first year semester 2 or at advanced level of study will NOT be considered.
Applicants are advised that meeting the minimum requirements is not a guarantee for Scholarship.
Applicants will be subjected to further selection based on academic merit.
