The Higher Education Council has announced new bilateral scholarships offered through cooperation between Rwanda and the People’s Republic of China for the 2026 to 2027 academic year. The programme supports Rwandan students who want to pursue Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD studies starting in September 2026. Eligible applicants must meet academic requirements in science fields and submit a complete application through the HEC online system before the deadline.
Overview of the Rwanda China Scholarship Programme
The bilateral scholarships support national goals that strengthen advanced training in science fields. The programme gives students full access to high level training in China through government to government cooperation. The offer covers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies. Minimum academic requirements
Bachelor applicants need at least 80 percent in the 2025 Senior Six National Examinations or the equivalent for qualifications earned abroad.
Master applicants need a Bachelor’s degree with a Second Class Upper Division or the equivalent.
PhD applicants need a Master’s degree with a good pass.
Work recommendations strengthen applications for Master and PhD levels. These are not compulsory but increase competitiveness.

Important Dates
The online application deadline is 17 January 2026. You should submit your file early to avoid last minute system congestion. Late submissions will not be reviewed.
