The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), in partnership with the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), the OCP Group, GreenTec Capital Africa Foundation, GreenTec Capital Africa, and with the contribution of the World Bank, FAO and other partners, is launching Pitch AgriHack 2019.
The competition is open to both male and female founders and co-founders of startups offering digital services to the agricultural sector. Applicants must be aged between 18 and 35 years old.
The final will be held in Accra (Ghana) in the framework of the 2019 edition of the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF 2019) in September 2019.
Requirements:
The competition is open to both male and female founders of digital start-ups owners of platforms (apps, hardware devices using software, etc.) facilitating the delivery of digital services to the agricultural sector.
Applicants need to be nationals and residents of any African country (Central Africa, Eastern Africa, North Africa to Southern Africa, West Africa), and nationals and residents of Caribbean and Pacific signatories of the Cotonou Agreement between EU and ACP countries.
The list of eligible countries can be check in the Rules. 50% of finalists will be women founders. Applicants must be aged between 18 and 35 years old.
Winning startups will receive from CTA and its partners up to Euros 15,000 in cash (grant) to advance their services, and additional benefits (capacity building, business matchmaking, facilitation of access to investment, promotion, etc.).
Prizes and other benefits
Winners will receive cash prizes (grants) including other benefits as specified below.
Early-stage category
Winners in this category will be awarded a grant contract (up to Euros 7,500) to further develop their services;
Mature stage category grant package
Winners in this category will be awarded a grant contract (up to Euros 15,000) to further develop their services.
The general prizes will be awarded by CTA and OCP Group.
Special prizes
a) Data management services
The winner will be awarded a grant contract (Euros 10,000) to further develop their services.
b) Public choice
The winner will be awarded a grant contract (Euros 5,000) to further develop their services.
c) OCP Group Award
This prize will reward an African company for the innovation and quality of their digital services as well as for their impacts. The winner will be awarded a grant contract (at least Euros 5,000) to further develop their services.
d) GreenTec Award
The winner will receive a collaboration offer from GreenTec Capital Partners (GTC) including suppoprt for business creation as part of Results4equity‘s unique model of GTC and a grant contract (Euros 5,000) to further develop their services.
Additional rewards
Apart from the grant contracts, all winners will receive:
a package of publications (business, agriculture and ICT books);
attendance to at least two regional or international capacity-building or business networking events, selected after consultation with CTA or partners involved;
extensive promotion by CTA;
involvement in CTA’s Pitch AgriHack’s winners’ network;
possible seed funding or investment from partners involved.
Application process
Start-ups will provide details on problems addressed, the technical solution proposed, key metrics, customer segments targeted, unique value proposition compared with the competition, revenue streams and other business strategy elements. They will also demonstrate that they are incorporated or that they will close the process a month before the final.
