The internship positions are located in the English Translation and Editorial Service, Documentation Division, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in New York. The internship is for two (2) months from 2 July 2018 to 31 August 2018, with a possibility of extension, subject to the needs of the Department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Chief of the Translation and Editorial Service, the Chief of the Editing Section or the internship supervisors, as appropriate. Candidates are encouraged to highlight their specific skills and/or experience in their application. They are asked to do so carefully in order to enhance the value of the internship for both themselves and the receiving Service/Section.
Responsibilities
Interns will be responsible for the following duties: (a) translating into English, for training and other purposes and subject to review, documents from two or more of the other official languages of the United Nations; (b) editing official documents in English, for training and other purposes and subject to review; (c) précis-writing in English, for training and other purposes and subject to review; and (d) performing other related duties as required, including terminological work and creation of translation memories. The official languages are: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. Candidates must have English as their main language (see "Languages" below).

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
•Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
•Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
•Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation from an academic programme.
Applicants who are unable to commence the internship within one year of graduation shall not be accepted.

Languages
Perfect command of English, which must be the candidate's main language (mother tongue or main language of instruction), and a good knowledge of two other official languages. Knowledge of a further official language would be an asset. The official languages of the United Nations are: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
Assessment
Candidates will be assessed based on their Personal History Profiles (PHP). Individual interviews and/or tests may be conducted for further assessment.
