KOLADE SUNDAY (Npower beneficiary)
I understand that the Npower programme is aimed at reducing the rate of unemployment in Nigeria. I also understand that the term of engagement is two years of which government have not decide to absorb the volunteers into the Civil Service. It will also be inappropriate to disengage over 400,000 unemployed youths at the end of two years of volunteers services.
In this situationtion, government will be happy to see that many volunteers are able to establish a small or medium scale business enterprises at the experation of the two years term.
If many volunteers are able to go into businesses of their own, the following are the possible benefits to the individual and the government.
1. Revenue generation through taxes.
2. Increase in Gross Domestic Products as new products will be added to the made in Nigeria products.
3. Reduction in the importation of certain goods and services.
4. Utilization of our agriculture products as raw materials.
5. Creation of employment opportunities for others.
6. Reduction in crime rates due to engagement of idle hands.
7. Ability to meet daily family needs by individual.
8. Ability to donate to community development programmes and projects.
9. Increase in Net National Income due to increase in income tax and individual income.
10. Abundant food to cope with the hunger due to geometric increase in population.
11. Government will be able to concentrate on infrastructural development and projects that will enable the growth of businesses and investment.
Therefore, I suggest that the Federal government should grant wavers to all Npower volunteers who might want to register their businesses at the Company Alliance Commission. If it possible, volunteers should be given free registration for any businesses they might want to register.
I will also suggest that all relevant government agencies should give special considerations to volunteers as far as relevant documents and physical confirmation can be ascertained.
We must encourage local businesses through this little means so as to enjoy the above listed benefits.
Government should also encourage people to patronize our made in Nigeria goods and services.
That is how to be patriotic. Leaders must lead by example to encourage the followers.
Leaders should spend holidays and vacations in their villages rather than in USA, UAE or UK.
